Meeting with Shanghai Lubricants Trade Association (SLTA)

A chance meeting at an Exhibition in Shanghai two years ago has led to a dialogue between UEIL and SLTA culminating in a recent meeting between Past President, Hugh Dowding, and officials of SLTA in Shanghai.

China currently does not have a formal, national, Trade Association but based on the progress made by SLTA it is well on the way to being the Representative Body, particularly as it benefits from support from the two major Chinese State Owned Enterprises, Sinopec and CNPC with their respective Great Wall and Kunlun brands.

During the meeting attended by a Delegation from SLTA, led by Mr Chu Jin Jun and supported by Madam Wu and Mr Jiagang Pan, the two parties discussed the roles of their respective Trade Associations, issues relating to local regulatory frameworks, funding and sponsorship and the numerous issues of a Lubricant Trade Association.

In the week following the meeting SLTA organised a Lubricant Seminar in Shanghai which also included a Technical Visit to a locally based international Additive supplier.

A representative of UEIL, Mr Paul Golesworthy of Polartech, read a message on behalf of UEIL President, Jos Jong, encouraging co-operation between the two Associations.

It is hope that a representative of SLTA will be able to travel to the next UEIL Congress to further cement relationships

ILMA Celebrates 60th Anniversary at Annual Meeting

On its last Annual Meeting ILMA celebrated its 60th Anniversary with the highest number of member attendees since 1998 – over 565 ILMA members. Colleagues were able to network, conduct business, and hear about trends in the economy and industry. In all, over 785 attendees and spouses helped commemorate the Association's 60th year.

"It was wonderful to see so many ILMA members conducting business, networking throughout the hotel, and attending educational sessions," ILMA Immediate Past President Anwer Hussain said. "Considering all of the current economic challenges, to see how many were in attendance just underscores the value of ILMA's meetings and the importance of meeting one on one with our suppliers and customers."

The Association opened its general session with a special anniversary video that tells the "story" of ILMA over the past sixty years, including how the Association has grown, how the industry has flourished since 1948, and what ILMA has accomplished for its members since its inception. ILMA Past President Jim Taglia was honoured during the opening ceremonies, as he was presented with the Association's John A. Bellanti Award. Following ILMA's opening ceremonies, keynote speaker Barry Asmus discussed the economy and other timely topics.

In addition to excellent networking opportunities throughout the hotel during the day and at receptions and events in the evening, ILMA also provided educational committee sessions on various sectors of the industry. These included:

Following the successful sessions and events, ILMA's Annual Meeting concluded on Tuesday, October 14, as ILMA President Anwer Hussain passed the gavel to Ron Powell, president of Moroil Technologies. Ron looks forward to continuing ILMA's ethics and branding initiatives, growing ILMA's reach through the industry.
